Refractory Components for Eccentric Bottom Tapping
An EBT taphole set is a coordinated refractory assembly installed around the eccentric bottom tapping channel. Its components form a stable tapping passage and protect the surrounding furnace-bottom refractory structure.
Wear is not uniform throughout the complete assembly. For this reason, the channel bricks and the channel end brick may be produced from different refractory grades according to their local service conditions.
Main Components of an EBT Taphole Set
The complete set combines structural and flow-channel refractory components that work together as one tapping assembly.
Surrounding Blocks
Refractory blocks installed around the taphole channel to support the assembly, protect the furnace bottom and maintain the required installation geometry.
Channel Bricks
Cylindrical or specially shaped bricks forming the main tapping passage. Their material quality is selected according to expected wear and operating conditions.
Channel End Brick
The refractory component positioned at the end of the channel assembly. A different material grade may be selected when its wear exposure differs from the main channel.
Refractory Grade Selection by Wear Intensity
Material selection should be performed separately for each component rather than assuming one refractory grade for the complete set.
Wear Severity
Local erosion, thermal cycling and mechanical wear determine the required refractory quality for the channel and end-brick zones.
Dimensional Accuracy
Bore diameter, brick dimensions and mating surfaces should conform to the approved EBT assembly drawings.
Maintenance Strategy
Brick grade and component arrangement should support the intended tapping campaign and planned replacement interval.
